Residents of the Castle Pines North Metro District (CPNMD) have rejected a proposal to finance a $64 million-dollar financing package to implement a far-reaching water resource plan. The vote, 1317 against the proposal and 659 in favor, followed a tally Tuesday night. CPNMD created a plan to reduce reliance on groundwater from wells and support renewable water from snow and rainfall. This includes storage in Chatfield Reservoir, through the Chatfield Reallocation Project in the next three to five years.

“It’s back to square one, as we have to do a better job in detailing for our residents and customers that this plan assures the long-term economic health of the community,” said board president Keith Dodd. “Our community must think about the infrastructure that is required to meet our water needs. We can put it off, but eventually water demand has to be dealt with. It is arguably the most critical need our residents have.”

Dodd and directors Kathy Rosenkrans and Eric Edwards were re-elected to four year terms; director Stephen Allen was re-elected to a two-year term.
